Our associates work in many different positions with a variety of tasks and roles. We recently sat down with one of our Quality Assurance Analysts to ask about her responsibilities during a typical day at work.

Name: Lindsay Millard

Title: Quality Assurance Analyst

Location: College Station, TX

How long have you been with Reynolds and Reynolds?

This is my 14th year with Reynolds. When I was first hired, I was part-time in the Software Support department for about a year and a half, and then went full-time for about five years before I transferred to the Quality Assurance (QA) department.

How did you end up at Reynolds?

I used to be a nanny, and the kids got old enough to where they didn’t need a nanny any longer, so I just started applying to different places. I met a Reynolds associate at my church and he said, “We have a bunch of great part-time positions at Reynolds.” I started the application process and was offered a position working as a Part-Time Software Support Representative. I continued to work my way up and just learn everything that I could and make myself useful.

What does a QA Analyst do?

Reynolds owns many different companies that provide software and hardware to support dealerships and other businesses. I try to find any potential issues before the software reaches our customers. I create test cases which are step-by-step instructions on a specific feature within the software and how it’s expected to work. I then write out a test plan, which is created with a group of different test cases to ensure each aspect of the software is working as expected. Finally, I test the software. If I find an issue, I report it and our Software Development team tries to fix it. Then I test it again. Once everything’s good to go, we release it to our customers. Basically, I try to break our software before it gets sent to our customers so that we give them the best possible product.

What does a typical day look like for you?

On a typical day, I come into the office, get my computer set up, and open the different applications that we use to create tickets and test the different issues with the software. Tickets are created when an issue is found while testing the software and when new features are created for the software. We use tickets to devise our test case and to create our test plan. I go through my emails and ask myself, “Okay, what do I need to get done today?” I’ll run through my tickets and work with them as I can. Then, I usually have a couple of meetings with our Product Management and Software Development teams to see what everyone’s planning on doing for the day. I also create test cases and the test plan and do documentation on how to test the different aspects of the software so that we have test cases ready to go for the future.

What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of your job?

I recently moved over to a new product, so the most challenging part for me has been learning the different aspects of the software. The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that I had a hand in the development of our products that we have now and a product that our customers are proud to use. I also mentor new hires. I walk them through the Reynolds processes and how everything works at the office and set them up with what they need to be successful.

What is your favorite part about working for Reynolds?

The employee benefits are awesome, especially as a mom of two. The other thing I like is that there’s always something different; I’m always learning something new. I’m never bored at work, which is nice. There are new opportunities for me to expand my knowledge of our products and how our customers use our software. There’s always something I can do, something I can learn, something that I can improve on, and I really appreciate that.
