After submitting your application and completing follow-up assessments, you hear back from one of our recruiters with an invitation to interview. You’re both excited and a little intimidated. You have questions swirling around in your mind about what you should wear and what you should say. Even after the interview, you realize you have more questions that you forgot to ask. While you can always reach out, we recently asked our recruiters to answer what are often applicants’ most burning questions.

How do I prepare for an interview?

Research the company before your interview. If you’re reading this, you’re already on the right track! As long as you have a general idea of what we do (working with auto dealerships), you’re off to a great start.

We also recommend preparing questions you have beforehand to show you’re interested and engaged during the interview. If you have an on-site interview, bring a padfolio or notebook with these questions so you don’t forget.

What should I wear?

Wear business professional attire, even if it’s a virtual interview. First impressions are made in a few seconds, and you want to get the interview started on the right foot.

When should I arrive?

As a general rule, we suggest arriving 15 minutes early. If you have an on-site interview, be sure to give yourself extra time to account for traffic, find our building, etc. If you feel like you’re too early, you can always wait in your car for a bit before coming in.

For a virtual interview, we recommend testing out the link that is sent to you the night before. This way, you can double-check that your camera and mic are working properly and make sure all software is up-to-date.

If given the choice, should I opt for an in-person or virtual interview?

At some point during the recruiting process, we would like for you to come on-site so you can get a good feel for our work environment and see all of our amazing amenities. However, we understand this may not always be easy with your location and school or work schedule.

We recommend giving your availability for both an in-person and a Zoom interview. The recruitment team will schedule your interview for whatever works best for all parties involved. If you have questions regarding scheduling, please reach out to us.

How can I make a good impression during a virtual interview?

Make sure you are free from distractions, your background is appropriate, and you are dressed professionally. Also, be sure your internet and Zoom are working properly before the interview.

How will I know my next steps?

The recruiter will tell you at the end of the interview. If you have questions or need clarification, let us know!

Should I send a thank you note after the interview?

Yes, a handwritten note or email is much appreciated. If you would like to send a thank you note following a department interview, but don’t have the contact information for the associate(s) you spoke with, send the note to the recruiter you’ve been working with, and they will be sure to forward it along. If you prefer to send a handwritten note, you can address it to:

Reynolds and Reynolds

Attn: [Recruiter’s name]

1 Reynolds Way

Dayton, OH, 45430

I haven’t heard back for a while, should I follow up with someone?

Yes, reach out to the last member of the recruitment team you were in contact with.

If I don’t get the position, can I still interview for other positions?

During your initial interview with a recruiter, we consider you for all of our openings we believe could be a good fit. If you don’t receive the position you initially applied for, we will keep your information on file for other positions across the company.

Is there anything else I can do after the interview?

If you would like to stay up to date on company news, you can follow us on LinkedIn, like us on Facebook, or follow us on Instagram @reyreycareers.

We recommend you submit your most up-to-date resume when you apply with us, but if anything additional and/or updated is needed, your recruiter will request it at the end of the interview.
