Resolutions To Make 2021 A Better (and Healthier) Year
New Year’s resolutions may look a little different this year, along with everything else. With all the COVID-19 restrictions and lifestyle changes, it has become harder to stay healthy when you’re stuck at home.
If you’ve been looking for a few ways to add more healthy habits to your life, look no further. Here is a list of easy resolutions to incorporate into your daily routine:
- Wake up 30 minutes earlier than your usual alarm time. By waking up earlier, you give yourself more time to get a slow start to the day instead of rushing. This could allow you to workout, meditate, or eat a good breakfast before the craziness of the day begins. Even if you’re working from home, and your schedule has gotten a bit lax, this will help set the tone for your day.
- Get in at least 15 minutes of exercise each day. This could be a brisk walk, a few yoga poses, or an at-home workout video. Getting your body moving every day increases serotonin levels (read: makes you happier), is linked to longevity, and allows you sleep better at night.
- Read a new book each month. By sticking to a goal of reading one new book each month, you will learn plenty of new things as well as feel productive. The goal of one book per month gives you plenty of time to finish it without stress. And, since most of us are stuck at home, it’s a good way to pass the time.
- Schedule a lunch with friends once a month. By making it a priority to meet either virtually or safely in person with at least one friend a month, you’ll always have something to look forward to and be able to keep up with your friends better than over text or email.
- Switch up your diet to include healthier choices. Participating in Meatless Monday, adding in one more vegetable every day, and cutting out desserts occasionally are all small ways to live a healthier lifestyle. If you are looking for even more ways to switch your diet up, there are wide ranges of meatless options from black bean burgers to soy-based chicken nuggets. By adopting one or more of these resolutions, you will be sure to look back on 2021 as the year you made good choices for yourself and your health!
