5 Things Corporate Life Teaches You
Working for a corporation can seem intimidating; however, bigger businesses provide countless opportunities for growth and enjoyment. While adjusting to corporate life you will master the tools of your new trade as well as other helpful skills. Here are a few things you will learn while working for a corporation:
1. Being a team player is crucial.
When you work for a corporation, there are different groups of people that work together to accomplish a task. Although in college the words “group project” could mean bad news, at Reynolds and Reynolds it means someone will have your back. If things get tough, fellow team members will step in to help or offer guidance. You will always be surrounded by people who are eager to accomplish goals, or assist in making your project a success.
2. Corporate buildings mean lots of amenities.
Don’t let the large buildings intimidate you. Corporations often include nice amenities to help employees feel comfortable and at ease during the workday. For example, Reynolds’ campuses include a health center, cafeteria, and access to a gym. Once work hours are done, there are sports fields located on campus for intramural leagues to play year-round.
3. Each team has its own culture.
Although Reynolds and Reynolds has overarching values, each department and team provides a unique atmosphere. One team may like quoting movies, while another may enjoy talking about sports. As part of the hiring process, applicants take an assessment that helps our recruiting department determine their personality. Based on those results, the recruiting department can match jobs with both personality and qualifications.
4 How to be self-aware.
Being in a meeting requires similar body language to interviewing. You must sit up straight, pay attention, take notes, and listen carefully. During your first few meetings you will be a little nervous. You may not know many people, or understand what the meeting is about if your training hasn’t covered it yet. This is when nervous tendencies show themselves. You may rock in your seat, click a pen, or try to check your phone. Take a mental note of your nervous behavior. As you meet new people throughout the company, consciously think about your movements, tone of voice, and other nervous habits. By controlling these behaviors, you’ll maintain a high level of professionalism around your colleagues.
5. How to stand out professionally.
While working for a corporation, you learn how to create quality work that matches the company’s standards. Once you have the basic understanding of company processes mastered, you’ll be able to follow the example of other high-achievers and bring your own unique ideas to life. Our company strives to promote from within, so it’s common to see productive employees graduating to different roles throughout their career. Not to mention, Reynolds recognizes and awards quality work, so you could be recognized at any point for your achievements.
Corporate life also gives you opportunities to volunteer in your community, travel, and participate in local events. If you’re interested in joining corporate life here at Reynolds and Reynolds, visit www.reyrey.com/careers and check out the job openings page!
