Our associates work in many different positions with a variety of tasks and roles. We recently sat down with one of our Outside Sales Trainees to ask about his responsibilities and what a typical day looks like.

Name: Bryce Blattner

Location: Tulsa, OK

What does an Outside Sales Trainee do?

As a Sales Trainee, I am, as my job title describes, in training. My job entails learning as much about the automotive industry as possible. I’ve found that the best way to do so is through the Reynolds training courses, as well as getting real-world experience in dealerships and having conversations with staff from every department. Another great way to learn is by shadowing with the different Reynolds sales professionals in your region. The goal of shadowing is to learn what each position at our company does and determine which one you want to do when it’s time to select your territory. For me, I am currently looking into the Account Manager (AM) or Variable Operation Specialist (VOS) roles. The AM is the quarterback of the Reynolds and Reynolds relationship with a dealership and handles all questions, issues, sales, and much more. The VOS demos and sells all products related to the “front end” of the dealership which includes the Sales and Financing departments. Gaining as much automotive industry knowledge as possible is crucial to communicating with dealerships and helping you get your territory.

What are your main responsibilities?

As an Outside Sales Trainee, my responsibilities are vast and ever-changing. Starting out, my main focus was shadowing Account Managers, Specialists, and Sales Directors out in the field, which helped me learn more about the automotive industry and introduce me to possible positions that I’d be interested in taking after my training. After several months of learning the business and becoming more comfortable within dealerships, I was given more responsibilities, including setting up meetings for Account Managers at dealerships and managing several accounts in smaller territories.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day when I’m in Tulsa includes calling on both Reynolds and competitive accounts, Zoom meetings with customers and coworkers, researching industry trends, and completing administrative work for the Account Managers in my region.

How did you end up at Reynolds?

I moved to Tulsa without a job but had prior sales experience from college. After completing the application and interviews, I was offered the job and haven’t looked back. I could not have asked for a better opportunity.

What is your favorite thing about working at Reynolds?

My favorite thing is the constant push to be the best we can be, both individually and as a company. The teamwork and support that everyone has for each other is something that I can only compare to my college swim team. I also really like the endless opportunity to grow within the company and the different roles that are available.
