This article was written by one of our summer interns, Jane. She attends Miami University and worked in the marketing department at Reynolds and Reynolds’ headquarters.

This summer, I had the opportunity to work with the marketing communications team at Reynolds and Reynolds. Previously, I had two other marketing internships elsewhere, but they didn’t prepare me with real work experience like this one did.

Right away, I was put in charge of creating a campaign for one of the many products Reynolds offers. I had a lot of control over the direction. Instead of only working within my team like I had in other internships, I was able to work with other teams throughout Reynolds, like sales and design, to get my collateral created. The material I wrote was sent to design, and from there out to potential customers.

I was able to see the direct impact marketing has. It was really cool knowing something I had written was in the hands of customers across the country. Being in charge of a campaign has been an amazing experience that I’ll be able to build on as I start my career.

In my short 11 weeks here, I wrote countless emails, ads, blog articles, web pages, infographics, and was in two videos. At Reynolds and Reynolds, the focus is definitely on learning experiences for interns instead of just doing busy work. I was treated as another member of the marketing team and was able to help others with their projects as well.

Before this, I wasn’t sure marketing was for me. This experience has given me huge insights into how marketing departments work and assured me that I am in the right field. Through my time at Reynolds, I was able to see that marketing is the best way for me to combine my love of reading with the creativity needed to write effective campaigns.

Outside of work, Reynolds and Reynolds’ recruiting department makes sure interns have plenty of fun as well. There are intern events throughout the summer including sand volleyball, networking events, and lots of ‘Lunch n’ Learn’ opportunities to learn about different aspects of professionalism.

While I am excited to return to Miami for the fall semester, I will miss my time at Reynolds. The experience has been amazing, and the people I’ve worked with have made this internship the best one I’ve had. Anyone looking to get real world experience and have fun doing it should apply for an internship at Reynolds.
