5 Things You Didn’t Know About Reynolds and Reynolds

1) The company was founded with $500 in 1866.
This small amount was used by Lucius Reynolds and James Gardner to begin printing newspapers and business cards. In today’s market, that amount would equal $7,354.90. The company quickly changed to printing standardized business forms as the printing materials became available. James and Lucius had a competitive edge by selling products cheaper with standardized forms, instead of the customized forms popular at the time.
2) Our original name was not Reynolds and Reynolds.
The company’s name was originally Gardner and Reynolds, which later became Reynolds and Reynolds in 1867 when James Gardner sold his share of the company to Lucius’ father, Ira Reynolds.
3) Our company was owned by a legendary salesman.
R.H. Grant, known as America’s number one salesman in the 1920’s and 30’s, bought Reynolds and Reynolds in 1939. R.H. Grant was Reynolds’ contact with Chevrolet for multiple years while establishing relations for an accounting system. We continue to follow his vision for the ultimate sales professional – one who combines personal integrity, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking to accomplish goals.
4) Reynolds operates in multiple countries.
In 1983, the company formed agreements to do business in Canada and the United Kingdom.
5) Reynolds was one of the first companies to capitalize on computers.
While computers were in their early stages in the 1960’s, Reynolds and Reynolds worked to make car dealerships more efficient by using this new technology. In 1963 Reynolds opened an electronic accounting data processing center. This innovation rapidly spread, and by 1965 we had seven electronic data processing centers available.
