Overcoming the Challenges of Job Hunting
“Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” –Harvey MacKay
Job hunting can be frustrating and draining, especially facing the challenge of proving your worth in the journey to find a career you love.
Reynolds and Reynolds has a recruiting center to help make the process less stressful for potential applicants. Unfortunately, the time spent waiting between submissions and interviews at any business can fray the nerves of job-seekers.
Although the process may seem tedious at times, finding a job you enjoy and can thrive in is worth the hard work in the end. Here are a few ways to overcome the challenges associated with job hunting:
Celebrate Little Victories
One of the most helpful things you can do is celebrate little achievements during the job hunt. You applied to all three jobs you found online? Take a break. You went to a job fair and passed out eight resumes? Watch an episode or two of your favorite show. When you achieve a little victory, celebrate it.
Treat Everything as a Learning Experience
Interviewers want to know what drives you, what strengths you possess, and how your skills and personality match with the position and company. Going through the interview process will help you learn many things about yourself and the type of environment in which you thrive most. Listen to the questions the interviewer asks and answer them honestly. Prepare for meetings, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Most importantly, walk into every interview excited to learn about the possibilities for the future. While job hunting, happiness can come from the journey and the destination.
Focus on Your Brand
Impressing your interviewer revolves around one thing: selling your brand. What motivates you? What interests you? What are you passionate about? The answers to these questions and more define who you are and show your brand identity. Highlight your strengths in interviews. If your weaknesses are mentioned, explain how you are improving on them. Think of how you would sell or defend your favorite brand, then transfer that passion onto selling your own abilities and potential to a future employer.
Taking the first few footsteps toward finding your career will challenge you and motivate you to be the best you can be. Don’t let the stress of needing to “prove yourself” outweigh the excitement around you. Take a step back when necessary and make the most of your experience. Landing your dream job will be worth the wait.
