The following post is from Ryan M. who interned with Reynolds this summer.

While many factors — such as skill sets, experience, and success in the classroom — play a significant role in determining how easy finding a post-graduation job can be, the solution may be simpler than you think: knowing where to look.

Real estate site Trulia and career site Indeed worked together recently to produce a comprehensive list of the 50 best cities for finding a good job out of college. The two sites took a few key factors into account when making the list: percentage of grad-friendly jobs available, average monthly income of those jobs, and how affordable the housing market in the area is for recent college grads.

Ranking 26th on the list was Dayton, Ohio, the location of Reynolds and Reynolds Headquarters. Dayton, a city known historically as a center of innovation and opportunity, continues to be just that for this generation’s college graduates. The city features great job availability, as 15.6% of job postings are grad-friendly. In addition, the average income for these job postings is a respectable $2,503 per month.

However, Dayton’s biggest attraction is its affordable living: 42.8% of housing listings in the area are affordable for the average college graduate. This rate led all locations by a large margin, with only three other cities managing to break 30%.

At the top of the list was Houston, Texas — home to another of Reynolds’ major locations. Houston also led in a category: income. Residents in the Texas city sported an average monthly income of $3,188. This mark outclassed the second highest by over $200 per month and is among the highest nationwide, even when the cost of living in more expensive places is not taken into account.

While finding a job can be difficult, be sure to take advantage of all the opportunities available. Moving to a new city may seem daunting, but there are many cities that are welcoming to young professionals and many companies like Reynolds that will support you in your career.
