If you enjoy working with data and networking systems, with a focus on problem solving and driving efficiency, then a career in information technology (IT) may be for you. To learn more about what that work entails at Reynolds, I spoke with Giorgio I., a data center technician in the Reynolds office in Birmingham, U.K.

Tell me a little bit about your life, education, and work history before Reynolds.

After college I worked in a law firm for just over four years, but eventually left my legal career to pursue a long-standing passion for IT. I was lucky to find the role of data center technician with Reynolds.

What made you want to join Reynolds?

I found the position very appealing as Reynolds offered fantastic support and the opportunity to progress my career beyond an entry-level role. The company seemed very interested in my personal qualities and aspirations, which has allowed me to grow into the position and build a solid understanding of Reynolds and the standards expected of me.

Describe a typical business day. What do you enjoy most about your current role?

My work is varied. Whether I’m monitoring our internal network or a client’s active server page, ensuring backups are completed successfully, or completing change plans to assist in the continual improvement of the data center, each day presents unique challenges.

I enjoy the steady opportunities to assist with bigger projects and cross-train with other departments. My peers are very encouraging and forthcoming with advice, and often include me in other work to expand my knowledge and help me get a good grasp of the bigger day-to-day operations at Reynolds.

What is one thing that surprised you about this position?

I would say the willingness and support from other team members to aid me in my learning and job development. The time and attention I’m given is much more than I would expect from an entry-level role. It really encourages a take-initiative attitude and a willingness to learn and develop.

What do you like most about working at Reynolds?

I really appreciate the support, flexibility, and positive attitude of my team and management. The people surrounding me are what make Reynolds a great place to work!
